Flag of Ukraine
The Ukrainian flag has two horizontal colours: blue over yellow. It is one of the most important national symbols and should be treated with respect.
Tryzub — the Trident
The Tryzub is the coat of arms of Ukraine. It is a state symbol connected with Ukrainian statehood and independence.
National anthem
The State Anthem of Ukraine is Shche ne vmerla Ukrainy.... It should be treated respectfully during official or solemn moments.
Ukraine at war
Ukraine is defending itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion. Security conditions can change quickly, especially during air alerts, missile attacks, drone attacks or near frontline areas.
02 Practical context
Ukrainian language
Ukrainian is the state language. English may be used in recruitment communication, but basic Ukrainian phrases are useful in transport, medical checks, shops and military settings.
Ukrainian hryvnia
Ukraine uses the hryvnia (UAH, ₴). Current everyday banknotes include ₴20, ₴50, ₴100, ₴200, ₴500 and ₴1000. Coins are also common for smaller amounts.
National respect
Respect for the flag, anthem, fallen defenders and military service is taken seriously. Avoid jokes about the war, losses, symbols or frontline topics.
